AJ practices herbal medicine in the Western tradition.  Herbal medicine is the traditional form of indigenous medicine in the UK.  Research has shown that plant constituents can have a range of physiological effects that can be utilised to help specific individuals.

Here are examples of some of the patients that AJ has helped with herbal medicine - those suffering from:

- Menopausal symptoms
- Pre-menstrual problems
- Depression
- Allergies (including asthma and hay fever)
- Colds and chest infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Migraines
- Abnormal blood pressure
- Arthritis
- Gout

In addition to the above, herbs can be used to help support the body in times of stress by optimising bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and elimination.  As such, herbal medicines can help in many conditions, even if they don't directly treat the illness.  This is of great benefit for more chronic conditions.

The consultation is based along similar lines to those of an orthodox GP, but with more time to look at possible underlying causes.  The initial consultation normally takes about an hour to an hour and a half, and includes basic physical examinations such as height, weight, and blood pressure.  Further physical examinations are carried out where appropriate.  Follow-up consultations normally take about half an hour, and are used to review progress and make any necessary changes to the treatment plan.

All prescriptions are dispensed on an individual basis to ensure that the herbs match the needs of each specific patient.
