AJ practices herbal medicine in the Western tradition.  Herbal medicine is the traditional form of indigenous medicine in the UK.  A range of conditions can be treated using plants and plant extracts individually selected specifically for the patient.

Here are examples of conditions that have been successfully treated:

- Menopausal symptoms
- Depression
- Allergies (including asthma and hay fever)
- Colds and chest infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Migraines
- High blood pressure
- Arthritis
- Gout

In addition to the above, herbs can be used to help support the body in times of stress by boosting energy and optimising bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and elimination.  As such, herbal medicines can help in most conditions, even if they don't directly treat the illness.  This is of great benefit for more chronic conditions.

The consultation is based along similar lines to those of an orthodox GP, but with more time to look at possible underlying causes.  The initial consultation normally takes about an hour, and includes basic physical examinations such as height, weight, and blood pressure.  Further physical examinations are carried out where appropriate.  Follow-up consultations normally take about half an hour, and are used to review progress and make any necessary changes to the treatment plan.

Price List:

Prices involve the cost of the consultation plus medicine.  The most usual form of treatment in Western herbal medicine is the tincture.  A standard dose of tincture is 100 ml per week.

***CAUTION***  Not all conditions should be treated with herbal medicine - the consultation will involve a full case history, and physical examination where appropriate.  If the symptoms indicate the possibility of a more serious underlying condition, then referral to the patient's GP would be recommended.

The Menopause
This is one area where herbs are now widely deemed to be safer than orthodox medication, as HRT has had a very bad press lately.  However, it is important to ensure that any herbs you take are of good quality.  All herbs used in the clinic are sourced from reputable suppliers who specialise in supplying herbs to professional herbalists only.
